Season Summary
Spring competitive rowing involves the transition to sprint-style racing. Similar to the Olympics, races are held head-to-head and are generally shorter in length (~2000 meters). The Pittsford Crew season focuses on preparing our athletes, both Novice and Varsity, for these faster/shorter races and competing in regional events accordingly.
Due to the Rochester area's lengthy winters, the first portion of the spring season begins with a focused land-based training regimen, including a mix of technique-focused days at the PIRC and physical training days at the Schottland YMCA. Once the spring weather conditions are deemed safe, the team will transition to on-water training at the Genesee River (hosted by the Genesee Waterways Center). Then, once the canal is filled and open, the team will finally transition home to the Pittsford Crew Boathouse facilities. Transition dates will be finalized and announced throughout the season.
As always, rowers and rowing families are required to abide by the Pittsford Crew Code of Conduct for the duration of the season.
