New for 2024 - Combined Competitive Team
Pittsford Crew is happy to announce that we are updating our competitive rowing program structure, beginning Fall 2024. In the past, the program was split between Novice and Varsity athletes, whereby Novice athletes were loosely defined to have less than 1 year of racing experience. While this model made sense at first glance, the novice experience for athletes varied greatly depending upon the age of the athlete when they entered the sport of rowing. USRowing has largely moved away from these classifications and is now delineating athletes primarily upon age. As such, most competitive race events are transitioning to defined boat classes of U15, U17 and U19.
To align our club with the broader rowing community, our athletes will now train as a united competitive team, with more of a focus on grouping/boating athletes together based upon age. This will not only better prepare our team for the required delineation at events, but also create logical subgroups to ensure safe and effective training programs. Additionally, this combined model will allow our younger/newer athletes to interact and learn from our older/experienced athletes on a daily basis and get a better appreciation of the caliber of athlete that he or she can grow into.
While we have eliminated the Novice/Varsity split of the teams, due to space and resource limitations, the Men's and Women's teams will not be able to practice concurrently.
